Y-Chromosome (26-STR) Analysis

$600.00 Canadian funds including all taxes

(Includes two male participants)

Designed for comparing male descendants of a common male ancestor, the Y-Chromosome test (or surname test) is especially helpful in determining how closely two males may be related in a directly paternal lineage.

An analysis to find a Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA) is possible using a combination of researched genealogies, Y-STR DNA test results, and statistical formulas. DNA Canada is offering the cutting edge of high-tech genealogical research.

Y-Chromosome markers provide researchers (i.e., forensic scientists, evolutionary biologists, genealogists, and anthropologists) a useful tool for studying human migration patterns, evolution, paternally linked relationships and identification. It has also been used to help locate the geographical origin of all human beings.

Interest to researchers because of its variability found among different human populations. To characterize the Y-Chromosome the DNA is genotyped at 26 different locations. DNA Canada provides the DNA profile data along with a comparative analysis after examining the DNA for 2, or more, male subjects (Surname Test).

DNA Canada uses this service to measure the likelihood of paternally-linked relationships. Furthermore, the data can also be used to research your own Y-Chromosome DNA profile (NOTE: There are a number of publications that will assist you with researching your DNA profile and how it relates to DNA profiles of published populations. Contact us if you are interested in receiving a list of publications that will assist you with this research).

Y-STR Comparative Analysis
  • Conclusive Range: Possible relationship is either supported or not supported.
  • Turnaround Time: 2 to 3 weeks.
  • Participants: 2 paternally linked male subjects.

Other Details: This test is used to support or disprove a direct male-to-male linkage between 2 male participants or provide information and assistance with researching population assessment.
